Travel a short 18 miles east of Savannah, Georgia and you will come upon the resort destination of Tybee Island. This small barrier island offers guests a beautiful 3 mile stretch of beach, the perfect place to spend your vacation time. Take in the hot summer sun while splashing in the cool waves of the Atlantic Ocean, or walk down the beach past the numerous sand dunes to the Tybee Pier. Here you can take in a spectacular view, spend some time fishing and enjoy many local musicians and events.
While many guests wish to simply relax and soak up the warm weather, there is no shortage of activities to keep you occupied. Venture out on a deep sea fishing trip or take a guided dolphin watching tour. If you’re a history buff, make sure you don’t miss the Tybee Island Lighthouse. This recently restored Lightstation and Museum are open to individuals, families and large groups for self guided tours. After you have hiked the 178 steps up and down the museum stairs, stop by other points of interest such as Fort Screven and The Tybee Island Marine Science Center.
After a full day of exploring all the attractions on Tybee Island, enjoy a meal at one of the island’s many restaurants, including everything from Beach Grills and Crab Shacks to Fine Dining. If you are lucky enough to find yourself vacationing at Tybee Island during one of the many local festivals, such as Pirate Fest in October, prepare to be entertained by a surplus of live shows, local bands and outdoor markets!
